Falling in Love Again

An old man in love is like a flower in winter.
Chinese proverb

Hi everyone –

This week I started digging in on editing “Night Walker” based on my editor’s feedback. This has been a huge shift in gears for me because while I’ve been shopping Night Walker around to publishers, I was busy writing the Moon series about my werewolf pack.

I had started writing Blood Moon, the third book in the werewolf series, and was just starting to really fall in love with my hero, Gareth, when I got the call from Entangled Publishing that they wanted to publish Night Walker.

The differences in my two series are impossible to miss. Night Walker is full of immortal shape-shifting vampires who have traveled the world for hundreds of years, while my wolves are a Pack in Reno Nevada who are just as mortal as the rest of us.

It felt like ages since I “lived” in my Night Walker world and spent time with my immortals. They’ve always been lurking in the shadows of my mind like a blanketing of whispers. In fact, right before I got the call, I had mentioned to Ken that I missed writing about the Night Walkers. It’s fun to be able to pull in actual bits of history and weave in fictional characters into the canvas.

So now I’m back to my Night Walker music playlist, reading and editing Calisto and Kate, and it feels like I’m falling in love again. It feels great to be back with them again. (And Calisto still sweeps my off my feet! Shew! LOL)

I can’t wait to finally be able to share this book and the series with everyone! But for now, I’ve got to keep polishing so the pages will sparkle, and hopefully you’ll fall in love with them too. J

Lisa

PS – Which books, or series, or tv shows are you falling in love with these days? Anything good out there?

(For Marvin – “a blanketing of whispers” & a Chinese proverb, “impossible to miss” is in there too… 🙂  )

    So excited for you, Lisa!!!

I’m trying to fall in love with Dean Koontz’ books again. We’ll see how the new one goes…

Hope the new book is great!!! I’m looking forward to his next Odd Thomas book! 🙂

Wow! It’s going to be fun (and interesting) to see how your edits change the original manuscript. Of course, I was only privy to the first few chapters, but still … I’m wondering about Calisto and Kate’s first kiss. I can hardly wait for that. They’ve got some serious chemistry going on. Just please … don’t make the poor man wait too long!

I’m doing my own revisions based on comments from my critiques and incorporating them throughout. Thirty percent through, woo-hoo. I love falling in love with my MMC all over again and finding ways to make his personality “pop” even more. Now if I could only find a guy like this IRL … ☺

    Hi Lisa Marie –

The first chapter is changing a little bit, but I can’t wait for you to see their first kiss either… Yum! 🙂

I had to take down my chapters for now too… Once the book is done being edited they’ll give me excerpts I can use. Can’t wait!

Isn’t it fun to fall in love right along with your characters?? THat’s my favorite part of writing! LOL Editing isn’t quite as fun since you already know how it will all turn out, but still! 🙂

Thanks for reading and commenting!!! Hope you have a wonderful week…

    Lisa 😀

Funny you should mention it…I’m falling in love with my first book’s characters too as I get into my edits. I think it’s smart to spend some time away from our own work so when we come back, we have a fresh perspective. And to me, it’s always good news when I find new stuff to love in my own work. Hopefully readers will enjoy those good bits just as much.

Best of luck on your edits!

I think you’re right about the fresh perspective… 🙂 And it’s fun to be surprised by your own story isn’t it? LOL

Thanks for reading and commenting!!! (And I should have my guest blog for you this week! 😀 )

Hmmm, you’re going to laugh, but I love Swamp People, and if I could make an alligator sexy, I’d make a new shifter species. lol. Have fun learning your story again. It’s fun to revise after things have sat for a while!
